Periodontics

What is periodontics?

Periodontics is a specialized type of dental care that treats problems with the gum or other structures that support the teeth. It is vital to treat any disease of the gums or these other structures to prevent the eventual loss of all the teeth.

How do I know if I have gum disease?

You might be aware of sore, swollen places in your gums. Or you might see a pink toothbrush (blood residue) or pink in the toothpaste you spit out after brushing. These are early signs of gum disease. Many people have symptoms of gum disease and don’t know it.

Signs of advanced gum disease include a bad taste in the mouth, bad smell to the breath or pus coming from the gums.

How is gum disease treated?

At Q & A Dental, we very thoroughly clean away any tartar that has accumulated below the gum line. We also smooth any rough or bumpy spots on the roots of the teeth. As the gums heal after this treatment, they should adhere more tightly to the teeth. This tight fit prevents the future growth of bacteria under the gums.
